Stephane Montez is the 10th generation of winemakers to work in the family-run Domaine du Monteillet. He gained invaluable experience by working at several vineyards on 4 continents.
In 1997, he returned to the family domain enriched by his experience, and was convinced that his terroirs (Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and St-Joseph) were exceptional. Indeed the terraces of the domain (“chaillées”) are exposed South-South-East, protected by the Pilat mount and rich of different type of soils: granite, schists, gneiss.
Stephane uses sustainable methods, manual harvest, crop destemming and fermentation temperatures control. He “plays” with the ageing process (up to 54 months) by combining ½ muids and smaller casks to modulate and optimize the wood influence.
